It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Fred Ellsworth Cress, 86, of Clementsvale. Fred passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on July 10, 2022. Fred was the beloved husband of Lois (Harris), proud father to Ronald (Lorayne) of Clementsvale, Lorna Trimper (Danny) of Bear River East, James (Chris) of Clementsvale, Gary (Debbie) of Clementsvale, George (Cynthia) of Princedale, and Fred Jr. (Cynthia) of Greenland. Fred was an amazing grandfather to 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; a brother in law to Carolyn Harris of Cornwallis, Murray Harris (Maxine) of Clementsvale, Coleen Fish (Wayne) of Yarmouth, and Douglas Trimper (Donna) of Princedale; and an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Fred is predeceased by, and the last remaining child of his parents George and Lorna Rose (Nass) Cress; also predeceased by his siblings Agnes, Meredith, Austin, Myrtle, and Boyd; his son James; daughters in law Lorayne and Cynthia; and brother in law Wayne.

Fred was born in Clementsvale on February 6, 1936. He spent his entire life in Clementsvale. He couldn’t ever imagine living anywhere else. This is where he met his wife of 67 years, Lois, they built their home and raised their family. Fred was oh so proud of his family, and it showed!

Fred enjoyed many hobbies over the years such as darts, cards, poker nights, fishing, hunting, attending jam sessions, dances at the Little Red Barn, ski-dooing, going for drives and teasing those he loved. He never turned down an opportunity to go for a drive or to tell work tales, family stories and funny jokes.

Fred worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator for various businesses throughout his years, including for his son Ron. He took pride in his work and was good at what he did.

Fred was known for his hard work ethic, quick whit, hilarious sense of humour, his incredible bear hugs and his famous sayings. Anyone that knew Fred can share a funny story and a fond memory.

Fred was often referred to as a gentle giant. He had a calm personality and strong body and mind. His friends and family knew that they could always depend on him, for anything they needed.

Fred spent the last year of his life at Tideview Terrace in Digby. A very special thank you to the staff of Tideview as they are truly special individuals who put their heart and soul into taking care of their residents.
