Obituary of Helen Frances Young

Young, Helen Frances, 81 of Upper Granville passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 29, 2022 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Freeport, Digby Co. on August 14, 1940, Helen was the eldest daughter of the late Roy and Maude (Andrews) Powell. Helen graduated with Honours from Digby High School in 1958. Helen and Wayne B. Young were married on July 15, 1958. They moved to Toronto where Helen found work in the Toronto Dominion Bank. Helen went on to run the business of Young & Forbes Diving & Marine Co. Ltd., until moving back to Nova Scotia in 1979. She continued to work as Manager & Bookkeeper of Young Brothers Ent. Inc. in Bridgetown. Helen was also involved in many community events, such as Big Brothers & Big Sisters. Her sense of humour and quick wit will be missed by all of her family and friends. Helen will be remembered as a loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Helen is survived by her husband Wayne B. Young, sons: Wayne M. Young of Upper Granville, Dale (Melissa) Young of Belleisle, and Kenneth Young (Tobi Balzer) of Bridgewater; sisters: Barbara of Ontario, Doris of Florida and Marlene of Alberta as well as 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Besides her parents Helen was predeceased by an infant sister Louise and her younger sister Cheryl. Visitation will be held Friday April 8, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. and funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday April 9, 2022 with Pastor Herb Anderson officiating both from the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Annapolis Royal. Donations in Helen’s memory may be sent to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stoke Foundation or to the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
