Obituary of Mildred Jeanette Burrell

Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mildred Jeanette Burrell, “Nana” Mildred Burrell, 94, of Clementsport passed away peacefully at the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home on March 15th, 2022. She was born in Massachusetts to parents, Israel and Mildred (Greenslade) Dukeshire. She as a teacher to many, whether in the school system, Sunday school or teaching young and old a new game to play; especially at the lake. Mildred’s greatest pride were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known to many as “Nana”, and not just to her own kin. She cared deeply for all children and enriched their lives through activities and art. This began at age 16 when she became a teacher at the one-room schoolhouse in Waldeck. She later became an integral part of the United Church Sunday School in Clementsport, where we remember her dedication to making elaborate costumes and puppets for Christmas concerts. Mildred loved to watch the hummingbirds, tell stories, square dance, paint, collect bottles and play games – especially Bridge and Scrabble. She also made the best macaroni and cheese in the neighborhood, as many kids can attest. She was an active member of the community, being involved with the House of Roth Square Dancers, bridge clubs, Good Neighbours’ Clubs and the Clements Historic Society. She was an Elder at the Clementsport United Church and honorary Elder at the Grace United Church in Digby and member of the UCW for many years. Mildred is survived by her three sons, Edward (Judy), Richard (Valerie) and Kevin (Kim); six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mildred was predeceased by her three elder siblings, Ernest, Dorothy and Aiden, whom she loved dearly. Please join us at the First United Baptist Church of Annapolis Royal from 12-1pm for a visitation and service at 2pm, Saturday March 19, 2022 to celebrate and remember the life of Mildred “Nana” Burrell, with Pastor Herb Anderson officiating. Covid 19 restrictions will apply. Masks required. Service will be Webcast on funeral homes website. There will be a family burial where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband and soulmate, Edwin, at the Clementsport United Church cemetery following the service. The family would like to thank Dr. Buchholz and the staff at the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home and Mountain Lea Lodge for their wonderful care over the past year. Donations in Mildred's memory may be made to the Annapolis Community Health Centre. Online condolences may be made at www.kaulbachfamilyfuneralhome.com
