Gibson, William John Kirkwood - 93, passed away peacefully at Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown, Nova Scotia on February 27, 2012. Born in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, England, December 12th, 1918 he was the son of the late Frank Hall Gibson and Nita Cunningham (Kirkwood).Bill served in the Royal Air Force during World War II in England, Middle East, India and Burma. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 with wife Nancy and three children and worked in an engineering capacity with Rolls-Royce of Canada in both Montreal and Vancouver for fifteen years and later with the American Trucking Associations of Washington, D.C. until retiring to Granville Ferry, N.S. in 1984. Bill was an active golfer, gardener and woodworker, a choir member of St. George and St. Andrew United Church, Annapolis Royal, and also served on the committee of Stewards and as a representative on the Council of Churches. He was a Past President of the Order of Good Cheer and of the Annapolis Royal Golf Club, a Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 21, a volunteer at the Annapolis Royal Community Health Center, and an active member of the Annapolis Royal Lodge #33, Eureka Chapter #5 and the Austen Bently Council #15. Bill is survived by sons Ian (Camilla) Gibson, Hampshire, England; Robert (Barbara) Gibson, Stratford, Prince Edward Island; daughter Judy (Ted) Lind, South Orange, New Jersey; grandchildren Ben, Neil, Sean, Chris, Maggie, Heather, and Christina; and great grandchildren Harry, Sorrel and Poppy. He was predeceased by his wife Nancy Margaret (Bennett), Sisters Kathleen (Snoad) and Margaret (Dutton). The family extends their sincere thanks to the staff at Mountain Lea Lodge. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. A memorial service will be held 2:00pm, Saturday March 3rd, from St. George and St. Andrew United Church, Annapolis Royal with Rev. Robert McCarthy officiating.
