My home is blessed with many quilts that I was able to purchase from Olive over the years that I spent summers in Nova Scotia. My husband Paul, and I would always stop when going through Weymouth to say “hi” to Olive and browse through the old barn that held so many treasures. She became such a good friend to me, and taught me so much about quilts, the design and names of those that caught my attention.. My day was always made brighter by talking with Olive…..and she always seemed to understand what I was feeling at the moment. One of my last purchases from her was a clock that chimes every hour in my living room in California, and between it and the many quilts I bought over the years, my heart is always full of happy memories of many moments I spent in deep conversation with Olive. The memory of her lives on forever in the friendship we shared over many years.
Forever grateful,
Judy Berry

We are shocked and saddened to hear (only today) of her passing. She was a wonderful lady who we always were happy to see when we would stop on our way to visit our folks and hope to pick up a treasure. She always remembered us and give us a deal. We are very greatful for her love of collecting and selling treasures and will miss her. Our condolences to her family and friends.

Thinking of you and sending condolences to you during this sad time. Thank you for sharing the wonderful memories of your mother/grandmother. Olive held a special place in my mother's heart, who was Olive's Aunt Georgie. Mom once mentioned that Olive did not care for Phys Ed., no wonder, she would sooner be outside.

What a beautiful person she was, my beloved and cherished friend. For well over forty years Mom and I loved nothing more than to stop in to see Olive at every possible opportunity, to have a good chat, catch up on everything, shop for treasures - I don't think we ever left empty handed - and it's no exaggeration to say that she became like a daughter to my mom and a true and much loved sister to me.
Olive made the sweetest Little Brown Bear baby quilt for my daughter and throughout the years never failed to ask after her. She visited Mom and kept on eye on things for months until I was able to be there and was an anchor for me during Mom's last illness, and afterwards. Spending an hour or two with Olive whenever I got the chance was the best, most comforting respite imaginable just as there were occasions when only the prospect of a granddaughter-driven trip to Olive's could brighten up Mom's day.
I remember how gorgeous the colour red looked whenever Olive was anywhere near it - her laugh, her warmth, her calmness, determination, generosity, honesty, directness, her absolute trustworthiness. That plaid jacket. Those amazing eyes!
I remember, as a kid, the first time my parents arrived home with a trailer bursting with stock "from Olive's", Mom all excited to describe this lovely person she'd met in Nova Scotia ... Olive showing me her magical collection of antique dolls all tucked up in the basement ... Olive choosing the perfect quilt, soft pinks and greens, for what turned out to be my last Christmas present to Mom ... the merry-go-round of Mom's periodic decisions to "be practical" and sell things to Olive only to have me suss them out with her help and buy them back again, always to Mom's great joy. This happened many times and I'm not sure Mom saw the humour in it but Olive and I certainly did!
Bunnies running about the yard. Kids all over the place. Her pride in Lou, Tammie, Chris and all her grandchildren. The puppy, new in 2019, nothing but clumsy paws and Olive smiling and so happy about it.
Olive, telling my partner in no uncertain terms and to his surprise to, "Take good care of her. So."
I froze like a deer in the headlights at the news of her illness and stayed frozen. I feel a deep and visceral grief at her passing and in a year, two years, of loss, hers cuts to the core but I know you, her family - whom she adored - were all around her and that being there with you, at the cabin, is exactly where she'd have wanted to be.
Brian sends his care and support from the distance we wish we would snap our fingers and erase and I know you are in Elizabeth's thoughts. I send gratitude for having had the joy and the privilege of Olive's friendship and I'm certain Mom would say the same. We both loved Olive dearly.

Dearest Krista: Thank you so very much for sharing your lovely memories of Mom. You are so right about the colour red and Mom. I actually have a lovely picture of her surrounded by red flowers that I will send you when I dig it out again. She loved your Mom, you and Elizabeth and her life was richer and joyful for having all of you in it. Much love to you, Brian and Elizabeth. I look forward to seeing you all in person soon. I only had the pleasure of meeting Olive a few times but I know she had to be a spectacular person to produce and raise such a spectacular daughter. As I read the eloquent words about her, I kept thinking, these are all Tammy's wonderful traits. Tammy, you always spoke glowingly of your mother. Your tribute to her was in your life, in the way you followed her example, always treating others with respect, kindness, and thoughtfulness. As with you, I would have felt privileged to call her friend. Such internal beauty is not common and is sure to command a high place in heaven. Bless you all.

Sending lots of love to all of you, this was a beautiful tribute to your Mom, Tammie. I have wonderful memories of honeymooning in NS and spending time at your Moms shop looking for treasures. Some of my most prize possessions are the quilts I got from her shop to bring home with me. I use them often and always think of NS, your Moms shop and the generosity of your family for letting us stay at your beautiful cabin on the lake. This tribute to your Mom brought tears to my eyes, what an amazing, caring, hard working, talented, generous and good humoured woman she was. Sending you all so much love, Vanessa, Scott and the kids xoxo

Serge and I always enjoyed stopping by and deal with Olive, or just have a short chat. She was always so pleasant. Whenever we had guests from outside Of the region, we would take them for a ride and stop at Grandma’s Antiques. Rarely did they leave without something. We will miss her, but her memory will stay with us forever. Rest In Peace, Olive. Our deepest condolences to the family. Linda Saulnier and Serge Vinet

We are so saddened to read of Olive's passing. So many ,many times we visited with Olive and her Mom in the shop in the past. I always found something that I just had to have in my home. Now is the time for me to downsize so therefore, I have to say I have not visited there for sometime, as I knew I needed nothing, but I regret, as we usually do, that I did not see her for the last two years. So sorry. She was a lovely lady and we enjoyed some great discussions.

On my very first visit to 'Grandmas' I was in search of some history on a few human Antigues. Lovely lady , that she is, she took the time to talk family lines, last names, trees, houses, and lore.
Olive listened, logged it all into that fabulous mind of hers and made unseen notations. It was suggested that I visit a certain home.
Her helpfulness. Her caring. Her honesty and her uncanny ability to sift through a list of historical notes was awe inspiring.
Ambassador to Nova Scotia!? You betcha! Ambassador to many a family tree also.
Olives' words of encouragement and logic are not often heard in this world these days, But they are remembered.
Thank you Olive for all your words. You surely touched so many and filled their memories with kindness....
Rest well....
