Obituary of James Herbert Barton

Barton, James (Tom) Herbert – 91 years of age, passed away suddenly at his home on September 8, 2020 in Lequille. Born in Digby, January 15, 1929, he was the son of the late Seymour and Annie Barton. Tom loved old country music, soap operas, wrestling, hockey, and baseball. He loved visits from his family and friends, working in his garden, playing cards, and watching the birds. He also enjoyed road trips. He worked at the Tom Force Sawmill, Fort Anne, and 40 plus years with Department of Highways until he retired in 1991. Tom is survived by his children, James Burrell, New Minas; Ina Cromwell, Cambridge; Bruce Burrell, Kentville; Margaret O’Donnell (Tom),New Minas; grandchildren, Justin Simms, Kingston; Tara Currie- Timmons (Danny Timmons), Upper Clements; Courtney Currie, Kentville; Megan Currie, Ontario; Brad Cromwell, Berwick; Sherry (Lloyd) Jefferson, Cambridge; Michael Cromwell, Digby; Mark Cromwell (Jarica Lynch), Deep Brook; Selina Cromwell (Stanley Robicheau), Digby; Darcy Comeau, Spryfield; Traven Burrell, Kentville; Nathan Ward, Canning; Marcella (Josh) Spencer, Hansport; as well as great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his 1st wife, Katherine Burrell; 2nd wife, Phyllis Barton; sister, Helen Hill (Barton); brothers, George and Gerard Barton. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. A graveside service will be held 1:00pm Monday, September 21, 2020 in the St. Albans Cemetery, Lequille, with Rev. Juanita Barteaux officiating. Due to COVID restrictions there will be no reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association. Tom’s children would like to thank everyone for their kind words and condolences.
