Please share a memory of Ruby to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruby "Bea" Eleanor Gillis, 99 of Halifax slipped gently away on Thursday, August 13, 2020. Born July 15, 1921, Bea as she was known by those who knew and loved her, was the daughter of the late John and Una (Durling) Barteaux of Dalhousie, Nova Scotia. Born and raised on the family farm in Upper Granville, Bea is survived by her youngest brother Andrew (Barb) of Mississauga, and many nieces and nephews. Bea was predeceased by her beloved husband John Gillis, sisters Goldie (Joe) Schmidt, Muriel (Stanley) Godfrey, Margaret (Orville) Guest, Millie (Ian) Bouch, Laura (John) Walker, Mary (Zane) Moore, Shirley (Doug) Shaffner, and brothers Francis and Raymond (Marjorie). A principled woman of quiet determination, lively wit and love of family, Bea enjoyed being a woman with a career, especially her many years with the provincial government. Although Bea and John did not have any children of their own, many nieces and nephews were blessed with numerous adventures with them. Their door was always open and welcoming and they thoroughly enjoyed each and every visit and story. Bea loved the challenge of a good crossword puzzle especially the New York Times puzzle, jigsaw puzzles and reading historical novels in her later years. Cribbage was a game she relished and enjoyed many a lively game with nieces and nephews. Every visit was cherished and included a loving hug, a story of the early years and always a good laugh. You could always be assured that a visit with Bea would leave you inspired and with a smile on your face. Bea was deeply loved and will be forever missed by all who were blessed to have had her as part of their life. We mourn her, but celebrate the life she lived and the time we had with her. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. At Bea’s request there will be no visitation. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a graveside service will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be made at www.kaulbachfamilyfuneralhome.com
