Obituary of John "Byron" Fancy

Fancy, John Byron, 69 of Westfield, Queens Co. passed away February 23, 2020 at home. Born in Caledonia he was a son of the late Odessa Mansfield and step son of the late Oliver Mansfield. Byron was the organist in the Westfield United Baptist Church for 40 years and later was the organist in the First United Baptist Church of Annapolis Royal, Granville Ferry Baptist Church and the Granville Center Baptist Church for ten years. He was the Leader of the Granville Choir and a member of the North Queens Men’s Choir and Quartette; played for Political rallies, Temperance Day Celebrations, funerals, weddings, graduations, Baccalaureate Services, and “Gold Rush Days” recitals. He was an avid member of BIANS, Order of Nova Scotia and the Order of Canada, taught night classes and was the in House Pianist at White Point Beach Lodge and Resort, as well as night auditor, front desk clerk, all departments at one time or another. He also enjoyed teaching school. He is survived by sisters: Christine (Dwight) Mansfield of Westfield; Alena Peach of Bridgewater; nephew Robbie Peach of Bridgewater; nieces: Lisa (Ian) Merry, Natalie (Mitchell) Herman and Brett (Evan) Ulhman along with aunts and uncles with whom he was brought up. He was predeceased by his mother Odessa Mansfield and step father Oliver Mansfield. There will be no visitation by family request. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday February 27, 2020 in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Old Westfield Road, Westfield. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal.
