Please share a memory of Stanley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dodds, Stanley, Bridgetown, Nova Scotia, died peacefully at age 86, on October 25, 2011, in Annapolis Royal, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 8, 1925, in Winnipeg Manitoba, he grew up in Montreal and attended Bishops College School. In 1943 he joined the Canadian Navy and received a commission as Sub-Lieutenant. After the war he earned an Industrial Design degree from Syracuse University, worked for the National Art Gallery in Ottawa, Defense Research Medical Laboratories in Downsview, Ontario and Bell Laboratories in Whippany, New Jersey and Andover, Massachusetts. Shortly after his retirement Stanley moved to the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia - eventually buying a farm in "beautiful downtown Beaconsfield" - just outside of Bridgetown, where he established the "Porcupine Rock Nursery". He is survived by his children, Thomas (Margaret), Richard (Jill) and Susan (Andrew) and his grand-children, Jean, Jackson, Nicholas, Zachary and Raymond. Stanley will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his kind, friendly, out-going nature, his passion for growing rhododendrons, azaleas and magnolias and his love of life and people. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. A celebration of his life for friends and family will held in the spring, 2012, surrounded by the flowering plants he so dearly loved. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Annapolis West Health Foundation or the Atlantic Rhododendron and Horticultural Society. On line condolences may be sent to www.kaulbachfamilyfuneralhome.com
