Obituary of Sherman Frederick Clayton

Please share a memory of Sherman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sherman Frederick Clayton, a kind and gentle soul, passed away peacefully at home in Hillsburn, on September 26, 2019, at the age of 75, with his close family by his side.

Sherman attended school in Hillsburn and later at the Annapolis Royal Regional Academy until, at 15, he decided his livelihood would be made on the water. Sherman spent the majority of his days as a commercial fisherman in both the scallop and lobster fishing industries. He became an owner and operator of numerous vessels throughout his career. In addition to fishing, he enjoyed working on vehicles and operated a garage beside his home in Hillsburn. Later in life, he thoroughly enjoyed working in woodlots and making firewood deliveries. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed the challenge that any work brought to him. He enjoyed getting on the road early to check on his operators and could often be seen in a drive-thru getting a coffee. Sherman enjoyed the beauty of classic cars and rifles and owned many over the years.

Sherman always had a calm demeanour and was known for his dry, but witty sense of humour, which he expressed, even in his final days. Sherman's love for his family was unequalled, and his devotion to the Lord was absolute. He was a member of Parker’s Cove Baptist church, where he was a member of the men’s choir. He was a former deacon and a Sunday school teacher in both Hillsburn and Parker’s Cove churches.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sheila (Joyce); son Shane (Lori); daughter Vinna (Kyle Moore); grandchildren Brett, Dominique, Olivia, Ella, and Lily; great-grandchildren Owen, Keleah, Gabby, Brielle; siblings Anna Covert, Ralph (Frances), Ruth Haynes; sisters-in-law Betty Camsell and Wendy Trimper; father-in-law Meb Hudson; many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Mary Clayton; mother-in-law Maisie Hudson.

A service will be held at Parker’s Cove Baptist Church on Monday, September 30th at 2pm. There will be no visitation by request.

Donations can be made to the Palliative Care team whose kindness and support has been appreciated beyond words. On line condolences may be sent to www.kaulbachfamilyfuneralhome.com
