My condolences to Carl's family. Carl was my mom's cousin but we alwsy referred to him as "Uncle Carl". I have many fond memories of being a little kid living across the road from him, and of the Continential Kitchen!

I’m glad the I got to visit with Carl and Linda on our last trip to Nova Scotia .....
Always had fond memories of Carl as a kid, first when he lived with us in Southern California, I think he felt like a duck out of water in California and moved back home.
Spend summers on the farm, haying and working the farm, Carl on a three legged stool dealing with the daily chores at 4:30 in the barn. He put me in charge of shoveling manure while he delt with milking the cows, occasionally squirting some milk to one of the many cats.
Once I saw Carl perfectly roll a cigarette on the back of a windy truck and light it as if took little or no effort, I was in awe of this talent as a young kid.
Carl was a little bit of a rascal too, he showed me once some moonshine he kept in bottles with poison labels, and when he worked at the distillery he talked about bottles he brought home that were classified as breakage or spillage.
On my last visit home, Carl did not know who I was, what was important were my memories of Carl. I was glad at least my son Matt got to meet him. He seemed to be in his element around family with a rum and coke near by.
Linda had been a saint in the last few years caring for Carl, and his family constant presents and with regular card games to entertain Carl.
We will miss him but have fond memories.....

I am deeply sad for your loss. My Uncle Carl was not a big man, but always seemed larger than life to me! I have too many memories of summers spent in Upper Granville, with dining room tables full of wonderful food, a gathering of the Phinney clan. He loved to entertain with lots of tales of his time in California and used to grill me on Quebec politics! Ever the organizer, I am grateful that he took care of my mother, his sister, Joan. May our patriarch rest in peace.

Dear Linda and family:
Carl always greeted everyone with a kind word and a genuine warm and friendly smile. He so possessed such a special caring and gentleness about him. From the past, I have so many fond memories of providing 'musical entertainment' at The Continental Kitchen and for several Private Christmas parties they catered to over the years. I worked along side Carl on many occasions in the Bridgetown Lions Club and he was always enthusiastic and eager to participate in beneficial fund raisers for their many wothwile projects. Without question, Carl would, without hesitation, give you the shirt off his back! He was so very proud of all his children and adored each and everyone of them and their many accomplishments. Carl was a hard worker, a good provider and a fine gentleman! With our most sincere condolences, may it be of comfort knowing you're in our thoughts and prayers. God love ya!
