Obituary of Melanie Jane Dennis

Please share a memory of Melanie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Melanie Jane Dennis (December 19th 1971 - August 4, 2023)

Daughter of William Hall and Eleanor Hughes, wife of Michael J. Dennis, and mother of Michael T.A. Dennis has died. Melanie was a kind, caring, thoughtful, supremely strong and intelligent woman who overcame adversity again and again until her luck ran out.

Mel was born in Oshawa, Ontario and two of her proudest achievements happened there. She became a multiple trophy winning competitive figure skater and a youth volunteer at the Oshawa General hospital. This was no summer job, Mel worked there for years doing shift work and directly attending to patients in a wide variety of care settings - working in settings as broad as acute trauma and to new mothers in the maternity ward. This experience taught her enormous fortitude. Melanie worked for years in her father’s accounting firm and as the de facto property manager for her father’s many rental properties. Later, she enjoyed the rewarding challenge of working for the Ontario Accountant’s regulatory agency, then in the dean’s and president’s offices at Acadia University. But perhaps her greatest achievement was giving birth to her and raising her son, Michael Jr.

Melanie loved animals, cooking, gardening, fishing, and fixing things. In fact, she was a consummate problem solver. She loved to rewire lamps, do her own electrical work (really), and solve the perennial problem of the non-starting lawn mower. She loved all these things, but above all, she loved us, and we miss her terribly.

Visitation will be held Tuesday August 8,2023 from 7-9 p.m. at the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday from St. George and St. Andrew United Church, Annapolis Royal with Rev. Alex Constable officiating assited by Rev Sheila Redden-Smith . Burial will follow in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery. On line condolences may be sent at www.kaulbachfamilyfuneralhome.com
