Ronald Orlando Wesman

August 11, 1939 – July 22, 2026

It is with deep sadness and loving remembrance that the family of Ronald Orlando Wesman announces his passing on July 22, 2026, at the age of 86. Ron passed peacefully at his home in Berwick, Nova Scotia, surrounded by loving family members.

Born on August 11, 1939, in Lamont, Alberta, Ron was the son of the late Paul Wesman (Wozny) and Helen Wesman (Kudryk). He was the beloved brother of Lorraine Webb (Wesman) and Ken Wesman.

Ron was predeceased by his devoted wife, Judy Wesman and his daughter, Melanie Wesman and son, Dean Leinweber. He is lovingly remembered by daughters Jennifer Wesman (Quinn MacDonald) and Sherrie Leinweber, along with extended family that included many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

As a child, Ron enjoyed the wide-open prairie landscapes of Alberta and was proud of his Ukrainian heritage. After his family moved to Vancouver, BC, he attended school there and joined the cadets, an experience that led him to serve in the Royal Canadian Air Force. His military service took him on adventures across Canada and Europe. In 1965, he became a charter student at Simon Fraser University, where he formed lifelong friendships and embraced new opportunities.

Ron approached life with curiosity and an adventurous spirit. An avid skier and sailor, he met the love of his life, Judy, while teaching sailing in Toronto. They were married on October 19, 1974, in Ottawa, and built a life centered on family and shared adventures.

Over the years, Ron's career took him across Canada; he worked as an Economist in Ottawa before owning and managing a Stedmans General Store in Fernie, BC; in Waterloo, Ontario, he worked in Financial Services with Merrill Lynch; worked in Publishing in Lillooet, BC; and ultimately returned to Financial Services, working with Investors Group, Berkshire Securities, and Investment Planning Counsel in Hope and Chilliwack, BC. Upon retirement, Ron and Judy settled in Round Hill, NS, a place they came to love deeply, before making his final home in Berwick, NS.

Ron was an active member of Rotary in Hope, BC, served as a Curatorial Assistant at Fort Anne in Annapolis Royal, was a member of the Nova Scotia Museum Board of Governors, and contributed to the Heritage Advisory Committee in Annapolis Royal. His passion for history and heritage inspired a lifelong exploration of his Ukrainian roots and led him to support Ukrainian families, orphanages, and hospitals through fundraising and charitable work.

Ron's many interests reflected his endless curiosity. He enjoyed learning the banjo, directing community theatre productions, studying the Ukrainian language, following Formula One racing, and staying informed about world events.

The outdoors brought Ron great joy. Some of his fondest memories were those spent with family at his chalet in the Laurentians, skiing, sailing, building ice sculptures, and sharing time together in nature. He instilled in his children a deep appreciation for the natural world, a sense of wonder, and the importance of service to others.

Ron was fortunate to travel widely and especially loved being on or near the water. It is fitting that he spent his final years surrounded by the beauty of Nova Scotia's shores and skies. We take comfort in imagining him now reunited with his beloved Judy, Melanie, and other family and friends who have gone before. May we remember Ron in the wind and the waves.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Annapolis Royal. In keeping with Ron's wishes, there will be no formal service. Those wishing to honour his memory may consider making a donation in support of Ukraine.
