Henry James Gregory

January 11, 1946 - July 9, 2026

Henry Gregory, of Young’s Cove, NS, passed away July 9, 2026, at Tideview Terrace Nursing Home, Digby, NS. Born in Hillsburn, January 11, 1946, he was the son of the late Malcom and Shirley (Rafuse) Gregory.

Henry began travelling to the US to pick apples as a young man before joining his father to be a scallop fisherman.  He finished his fishing career as captain and owner of the Lady Gina II.  After many years on the water, he retired and worked in the orchards of Barteaux Farms. There, he spent his days on ladders instead of the water.

Henry was a devoted husband to the late Wanitta for 54 years. They spent many days going for drives and eating out for lunch, followed by visits to the grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s homes.  You could often find him sitting in the car waiting for Mom while she was visiting or attending church meetings.  While they both resided at Tideview Terrace they would walk the halls and spend their time there together as well.  Henry served in the Parker’s Cove Baptist Church, helping whenever there was work to be done.  Henry was a kind and most gracious man but could always be counted on to make a joke to keep everyone laughing.

Henry leaves behind his children; Peter (Pam), Lequille, Gina, Parker’s Cove, and Justin, Cape Breton.  Grandchildren; Logan, Hannah, Vashti (Collin), Kyla (Jake) and Brett, great grandchildren; Ainslie, Nessa, Seamus, Brock and Kane, sister Prudy (Carl), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Wanitta, parents, brothers; Alan and Monty, sister-in-law Carol, and son-in-law Grant.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Tideview Terrace for their exceptional care for both Mom and Dad, as well as their kindness shown toward our family. 

An open graveside service will be held at the Hillside Cemetery, Parker’s Cove, July 21st at 10:30AM, officiated by Pastor Collin McMahon, refreshments to follow at Gina’s house.  Memorial donations may be made to the Parker’s Cove Baptist Church.
