MARGARET FLETCHER MCCAUL

December 12, 1943 - July 7, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Fletcher McCaul, 82, of Delaps Cove; at the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home on July 7, 2026. She was our most ‘Marvelous Margaret’, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all. Born to Freda Wayling she became the adopted daughter of Edith and Alvin Milner.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Paul Burton McCaul; and her three daughters, Patricia McCaul of Halifax, Carol Lowe (Perry Trimper) of Annapolis Royal, and Pamela McCaul of Delaps Cove; five grandchildren: Bonita, Lesley, Elaina, Rachel and Laura; and five great-grandchildren: Eva, Nora, Eleanor, Timothy and Rina. Margaret was predeceased by her son Richard Paul McCaul, her sister Joyce Hatfield and her brothers Don Ritchie and Paul Fletcher.

Margaret grew up in Mochelle, met Paul at the local theatre and they married soon after. In 1973 they moved to Delaps Cove and the new home they built for their family. She was skilled in several capacities starting as a strawberry picker when she was 12, then various roles at the nearby Elastic Plant, and eventually 20 years at Seawind Fisheries where she started in processing on the floor before becoming book keeper for the operation. This was her favourite job and she was dedicated to her employer and friend, Michael Longmire. She had advanced sewing skills that were sought out by many. Weddings, proms, other fancy occasions to the practical - she solved many a problem just like the nurturing Mother she was to all of us.

For Margaret, her priorities were family, friends, faith and fun. She was always concerned for others and wanted to help wherever she could. She looked forward to any gathering.

Volunteerism was extremely important to Margaret. Some examples included the Womens Missionary Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, and the Community Hall and Sewing Circle in Litchfield.

In January of 2022, Margaret was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer. This began a roller coaster journey where she demonstrated her remarkable inner strength. She was in and out of palliative care for over three years. Fortunately, her cherished dog ‘Spirit’ entered Margaret’s life at this time. Affectionately called ‘Grandma’s Girl’, her four-legged companion was a constant source of joy and comfort.

Special appreciation is extended to the wonderful staff at the Nursing Home and the Community Palliative Care Team. Their personal attention to her needs and cooperation for outings whenever the energy level presented itself, leave us with many fond memories these last few years.

Visitation will occur at 10 am Monday July 13, at the Parkers Cove Baptist Church. Margaret’s funeral will start immediately afterwards at 11 am, to be followed by a reception at the same location.

Margaret will be missed by many. In her memory, our family suggests donations could be made to two organizations that were very important during her care: Fidelis House in Kentville, and the Annapolis Community Health Centre.
