Joseph Beninati was born in Detroit, Michigan USA on July 27th, 1944 and passed away July 2nd, 2026 peacefully of natural causes.

 Joe was a Fransiscan Friar in his youth and moved to Canada in the 70’s to begin a new chapter. He graduated from McGill School of Social Work in ’84 and worked in his chosen profession until his passing. He never married nor had any children.

He has always put pen to paper and was able to express his thoughts and perceptions of life into a poem. In the past several years he was able to compile all of these writings and published two books of poetry: Shadows I Have Seen and Reality’s Fragility, which he would proudly tell anyone to find them on Amazon.

An avid gardener, even though he would tell you he hasn’t either a green thumb, he always had flowers and vegetables growing in the house in winter to have ready to go outside in the greenhouse after that last frost.

Joe found community and worship at the hermitage of the Announciation in New Germany and returned to his Monastic roots seven years ago and was officially received into the church in 2023. A service will be held at the Hermitage of the Announciation at 172 Goose Chase Rd, New Germany N.S. on Sunday July 5th, 2026 at 2 pm. Father Jean Baptist officiating. No Flowers by request.

Donations in Joe’s memory may be forwarded to the Hermitage New Construction Build. Internment to take place in the Hermitage of the Announciation Cemetery.
