Surprised and shocked to hear of his passing. He was an excellent neighbour who lived next door to us. Many enjoyable conversations with Joe. And lots of his homemade bread! We will certainly miss him. Condolences to his family.

I knew Joe quite well. He was a member of the same writers group and shared his poetry with us often.
I helped him publish his two books and even designed his covers for him.
We had many deep conversations over the years I knew him and will miss hearing him read his poems, luckily I have a copy of each book.

Joe was my great uncle— brother of my grandmother. He wasn’t fond of the label “uncle” (or of any labels at all), so I will instead refer to him as what he really was to me: my friend.
I had the privilege of getting to know Joe for the last few years of his life. In Joe, I found a kindred spirit— someone who shared a truly strange amount of common interests with me. We connected over many things, including a deep interest in spirituality, philosophy, foreign language, and poetry. Joe was a unique guy: a deeply spiritual seeker with a no-bullshit attitude to life. I will deeply miss sharing our creative writing, exchanging thoughts on existence, sharing important books and videos with each other, and writing letters in Italian to one another. Much of Joe’s life experience is distilled in his poetry, especially the final collection he put together. I encourage anyone who wants to get to know him better to read them. He was a mystic and a poet at heart, and shared philosophical poems he was working on with me as recently as a few weeks ago. Even though our friendship was only for a few years, I am very grateful to have crossed paths.
