Julia Ann Turner Obituary

Julia Ann Turner

1936-2026

Julia (Julie) was born to Francis Lemoine and Dora (McFadden) Sheridan who moved from Halifax to Pointe du Chène, New Brunswick, for health reasons. She had a happy childhood and was particularly fond of her maternal grandmother, known by all as Granny, who introduced her to all facets of life, preparing her well for her future adventures. As a result of this great practical education, she embraced life and had no fear of death.

She graduated from Provincial Teacher’s College, Fredericton, in 1954. She quickly went to teach Elementary school at RCAF Chatham in the same province, where she met on arrival Flight Lieutenant Jack Turner, pilot and flying instructor. Their first meeting was hesitant; yet it quickly proved out to be successful. They were married the ensuing year.

Jack’s military career took her and her family to various locations in Canada, Europe and the USA. Her two children, born in Longueuil, Quebec, and Ottawa, were a constant presence. Julie loved her life. Some of her happiest memories were their travels together, particularly to New Brunswick for summer holidays with her siblings and her nieces and nephews, as well as to different European countries, by whatever means available.

The family moved to Granville Ferry for the children to complete their secondary education. Julie embraced her new community, which reciprocated generously. She was able to teach again part-time at times, and get involved in her church and many different activities, including bird watching, tennis, and gardening. Her particular passion for organizing activities found a natural outlet in politics and she got involved in managing several campaigns, at the provincial and federal levels: one had a duty to be an informed participant in our democracy.

Once their children were in University, Julie and Jack spent winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida where they established a new group of dear friends, and share with them their enthusiasm for tennis. Julie and Jack especially enjoyed their long daily walks on the beautiful beach.

She leaves daughter Jennifer (Jean-Louis) Batiot, Annapolis Royal, son Jeffrey (Stacia) Turner, Chute à Blondeau, Ontario; cherished grandchildren Jessica Batiot-McCarthy (Robert), PEI, Luke (Heather) Batiot, Kingston, NS, Daniel (Brandis) Turner, Utah, Mark Turner, Nevada and Elizabeth (Satish) Madala, Dallas; her great grandchildren Amanda and Addyson McCarthy, Jack and Ben Turner, Rohan, Argen and Juliana Madala and Lyra and Ewan Batiot, and her many  cherished nieces and nephews.

Julia was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) in 2005, her sister Pauline Gentles, brothers Donald, Franklyn and Jack Sheridan.

She always expressed gratitude for the compassionate care provided to her by the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home and by the Annapolis Family Practice.

Julia passed away on 1 May 2026. In her own words: "I have had a very happy life”.
