John Charles "Johnny" Cronin Obituary
John (Johnny) Cronin of Port Wade passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at age 76, on May 3rd at the Annapolis Royal nursing home. Leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, kindness, and deep connection to his community.
Born and raised along the shores of Port Wade to John and Isabell (Outhouse) Cronin. John carried a lifelong appreciation for the rhythms of coastal and rural life like the 7 generations of Cronin’s before him. Although Johnny battled a lifelong mental illness, his strength, resilient nature, and sense of humour helped him carryon where most would have succumbed. He was known to many as a steady presence—someone who could be counted on without question. He made many friends and spoke fondly of his time working at Casey Fisheries in Victoria Beach. To stay busy, Johnny worked on small mechanical jobs from his home in Port Wade for many in the community. He also worked on boats at the Victoria Beach wharf with his son Chad, doing mechanical repairs. Johnny’s legacy of mechanical ingenuity, hard work, and helping others (often working through the night to have the vessel ready for the next day’s work) lives on in his son Chad. Johnny was truly humble and did not care for material possessions nor money; his labour was a labour of love and he would rather a thank you, a hug, or handshake- he was truly selfless. Whether lending a hand to a neighbour, sharing stories over tea, or simply offering a warm greeting, John had a way of making people feel seen and valued.
Johnny found joy in simple pleasures: He loved old country music and Port Wade, and you would often see him sitting in his door yard listening to his Sunday evening country music jamboree. He also loved his animal companions that he had a deep connection with.
John will be remembered for his humility, his sense of humour, and the genuine care he showed to others. His passing leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his memory will live on in the lives he touched.
Predeceased by his parents, John and Isabell Cronin, and sister Catherine McGrath (Cronin).
He is survived by his son Chad (Kim) Cronin Port Wade, who is devastated by his loss, and grandchildren Trenten and Faith. He also leaves behind, sisters Diane (Cronin) Macfadyen and Helen Cronin, and brother Daniel (Danny) Cronin, plus many nieces and nephews. Johnny will also be missed by his adoptive family Kimmie, Edward and Kirsty, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
