My Uncle Roy was a worldly, captivating man, who pulled me into his stories with the relaxing timbre and rhythmic cadence of his voice. My childhood is woven with memories: boat trips on the Annapolis River, camping at Gibson’s Lake, snowmobiling at Christmastime or flying through the valley. Throughout my life, whether visiting he and Freda in Florida or sharing a holiday meal closer to home, I always felt his sincere, honest affection.
One of my favourite memories is taking my husband, Kevin—then my boyfriend—to the riverside cottage for the first time, over 20 years ago. Eager to impress and quick to help, Kevin jumped in to assist with pulling up the floating dock and promptly fell into the river. After the laughter subsided, Roy dryly remarked, "In all my years here, I don’t recall anyone ever falling in when removing our dock." And just like that, Kevin was part of the family.
Roy later spoke at our wedding, and he and Freda always welcomed us into their home with open arms. No matter how much time passed between visits, that warm connection remained. He was a constant, welcoming presence; he will be deeply missed and forever fondly remembered.

My late brother and I grew up with Roy's son, Bruce. Our families went on camping trips together, flew airplanes from the Greenwood Flying Club, spent great times at each other's homes and cabins. I cherish my memories of Roy, Frieda and Bruce from the 1970's.

Hey Bruce, just a note to say that I am very sorry for your loss, a DAD is a very important part of a son's life. Your dad was there for you, as was mine. A lot of memories flash through my mind of Church St. and the cottage, snowmobiling, water skiing, flying in the plane, camping and just growing up in the best time of our lives in the best place on earth and with the best people. Your friend forever, Craig

Remembering my dad fills me with wonderful memories. The many camping trips around Nova Scotia and throughout Canada and the US. Countless hours of towing me on water skis or driving me to the downhill ski hill in Middleton. Dropping me off at the theatre in Middleton for an afternoon movie while mom and dad went shopping. Going flying with him to do a touch and go in Charlottetown PEI, because at the time I had never been to PEI, and this was a chance to say I'd been there. He was always ready to help.
Whether driving me on my paper route when it was raining or later in my life, taking the kids on a weekend camping trip to give Kim and I a break for the weekend. All of this barely begins to describe his generosity, kindness, and selflessness.
He will be dearly missed and loved forever.
Your son, Bruce
