Holmes, Muriel Joyce – 97, of Annapolis Royal, passed away peacefully at the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home, December 20, 2025. Born in Digby to the late Joshua and Eva Height.
Joyce attended school in Digby and Barton and then studied at Normal College in Truro. She was employed for many years as Supervisor, Eaton’s catalogue sales office, Digby, Middleton, Kentville and Bridgetown, until the final office closed. She was then employed at United Elastic in Bridgetown as a Lab Technician until it closed. Joyce then returned to school to take a Clerk-Typist course and was very proud that she became the most accurate typist in the class. She was then employed by the Digby Mirror/Digby Courier until she retired due to poor health. This was the perfect position for her accuracy and excellent memory for names and places.
Years earlier, Joyce had taken a sewing course and made many fashionable clothes for her children and herself over the years. Upon retirement, she took up sewing again and altered and created prom dressed, wedding gowns, coats, pants, drapes, etc. She was also an avid knitter and many babies were gifted with her beautiful sweater, cap and bootie set.
Always a cat lover, Joyce coaxed many stray cats to her care over the years. She attended to their health, named them Ginger, Babes, Fluffy, Tabby Joe, and other cat-appropriate names, and loved them to pieces.
Joyce is survived by her son David Wendell (Shannon), Nictaux; daughter, Susan Dolores, Halifax; sister Marilyn Campbell, Surry, BC; grandchildren Timothy, Kim, Kelly, Alton, Tyler, Samson, and several great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her spouse of 30 years, Wallace Maloney; daughter, Carol Elaine; sons, John Edward (Sandra Gauthier) and Robert Jordan and grandson, Robbie.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Saturday, December 27, 2025 at the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal with Pastor Herb Anderson officiating. Burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lequille.
