It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Chase, on December 15, 2025, in South Shore Regional Hospital. A father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.
Born September 10, 1949, he was the son of the late Gordon and Evelyn Chase. Bill spent the majority of his life in Sims Settlement, where he and his late wife Lorraine raised their four Children, with pride and devotion. Married August 17, 1974, Bill and Lorriane shared 32 years together before her passing, and their legacy and memories lives on through their children and grandchildren.
Bill dedicated over 30 years of his working life to Snair’s Bakery, where he was a familiar and friendly face to many in the community.
A lifelong sportsmen and tireless community supporter, Bill was a founding member of the Hubbards Blues Old Timers Hockey Team. He played in it early and later took on the role of coach. His love for hockey extended to his involvement with Chester Minor Hockey, where he not only coached but also served on the board when his son, Kirk first laced up his skates.
Bills passion for sports didn’t stop at hockey. He played and coached numerous ball teams, both fast ball and slow pitch, and also served as an umpire for many years. Anyone who knew Bill, knew that he was a die-hard Boston Bruins and Toronto Blue Jays fan.
He was a proud member of member of Chester Legion Branch #44, and an active participant in the South Shore Men’s Dart League, where he served as president for many years. After stepping away from competition due to limited mobility, Bill remained the league’s statistician until its conclusion. In earlier years, he was also a dedicated member of the Lions Club. If all of this didn’t keep him busy enough, in his spare time he could also be found, building furniture and making wood crafts, snowmobiling and four wheeling or playing a game of horseshoes.
Bill will be deeply missed by his children, Wendy Chase (Kirk Hector), Kirk (Jennifer) Chase, Loretta (Jamie) Randall, Danielle Chase (Keegan Gingell); his cherished eight grandchildren and his two great-grandchildren; brother, Steve (Joanne) Chase, Tantallon.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine and half-sister, Freda Duffy.
Bill will be remembered for his kind heart, community spirit and unwavering commitment to family. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched both on and off the rink, the field, and in his community.
The family wishes to extend heart felt thanks to the VON and healthcare staff, and the Staff at South Shore Regional hospital for the exceptional care he was given, as well to Staff at Shore Ham Village, even though his stay was short.
In lieu of flowers or donations, Bill’s wishes are for people to slow down and take time with friends and family. Life moves quickly, spend time with everyone you love!
A celebration of life will be held 1pm-4pm, January 3, 2026 at Chester Legion, Branch #44 upstairs. We request that those of you attending, make Bill proud and wear some Boston Bruins or Toronto Blue Jays gear!
