Douglas Grant Moar Obituary

Douglas Grant Moar

March 24, 1951 to December 3, 2025

It is with great sadness that I tell you all that Grant passed away in his sleep on December 3rd, 2025. Grant grew up in the small town of Semans, Saskatchewan where he was known to everyone as a star athlete, excelling in hockey, track and field and curling.

Grant’s work took him to many places around the world and he loved meeting new people and experiencing different cultures.

Grant leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Lynn (Barron) Moar and three children from his first marriage, Tammy McCormick (LaRonge, Sask), Clark (Calgary, AB) and Scott (Calgary, AB). He is also survived by siblings Elizabeth Moar (Prince Albert Sask), Penny Kunitz (Calgary, AB) Ken Moar (Canwood, Sask), and Wanda Bell (La Ronge, Sask), and In-laws Greg and Sue Barron (Sidney BC). Grant was pre-deceased by his parents, Allistair and Rose Moar, brother John Moar and Sister Lorie Ludtke.

Grant was grandfather to 7 children and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a figure at times bigger than life both in his career and in his community. He loved golfing and scotch (not necessarily in that order), his family, and his home in Nova Scotia.

Grant loved all things Scottish and wanted to leave everyone with some words from is favourite poem by Edwin Osgood Grover, entitled Dinna Forget:

Here awa and there awa, Nearing the journey’s end,

Life behind and Heaven before, And each a friend;

Whether we share a last farewell, When the sun has set,

Whether we silent go our way --- Oh, dinna Forget!

In keeping with Grant’s expressed wishes, his body will be cremated. His ashes will be taken home to Semans, Sask this summer where he will be interred beside his mother, father and siblings.

If you wish to make a donation in Grant’s memory, please make it to Soldiers Memorial Hospital Foundation, Middleton, NS or to a charity of your choice.
