Ethel “Audrey” Zimmerman, 92, of Tideview Terrace, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025.
Born May 25, 1933, in Yellowgrass, Saskatchewan, to Henry and Lula Hockley, Audrey grew up on the family farm. She loved caring for the animals, riding her horse, and playing with her dog. After graduating high school, she attended Alberta Bible College, where she met her future husband, Merle Zimmerman. They married in August 1953 and began their ministry together at Nanton Christian Church. Their first two sons, Mark and Neil, were born in Alberta. In 1957, the family moved to Prince Edward Island, and ten years later relocated to Weymouth, Nova Scotia. There, Audrey gave birth to twin boys, Kirk and Kent, in 1970. Sadly, Kent passed away after only three days. Through these hardships, Audrey’s faith remained her anchor. In 1982 another move took Audrey and Merle to Fredericton NB where they served at Fredericton Christian Church for a number of years. After serving in various communities across the Maritimes, she eventually settled once more in Nova Scotia.
Audrey’s love of music was a constant throughout her life. Whether singing solos, duets, or in choirs, her voice brought joy to many. One of her proudest moments was joining the Confederation Choir in 1967 to celebrate Canada’s centennial. She also delighted in welcoming friends and family into her home, always ready with a warm meal and conversation. A devoted reader, Audrey could often be found with a book in hand during quiet moments. She also found great joy playing her piano.
She is survived by her sons Mark (Lorraine) and Kirk (Megan); daughter-in-law Karen; grandchildren Amy (Nicholas) Mullen, Jonathan (Nicole), Trevor, Erin (Jason) Bergman, Callie (Evan), Caleb, Kate, Aiden, Mia, Reid, and Jenna. Audrey was predeceased by her husband Merle, sons Neil and Kent, brothers Harold (May), Willard (Florence), Dan (Irma), and sister Eileen (George) Chapman.
Many thanks to the Tideview family who took very good care of Audrey over her last years.
A funeral service will be held on December 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Weymouth Church of Christ, with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Weymouth Church of Christ.
