David Arthur Logsdail Obituary
David Arthur Logsdail affectionately known as dad and Grampy took flight on to his next journey August 31, 2025 at the age of 77. Born in Kingston, Ontario in 1948 to Hugh and Irene. He was the oldest of five children. He pursued education as an electrician, gaining red seal certification. He completed projects both institutional and commercial as a foreman. Being a true tradesman, he built his first house along side his father and brother-in-law.
In 1964 he started what turned out be a lifelong connection with 58 Sqn RC(AIR)CS. First as a cadet, moving up to to Commanding Officer in 1974. During his six years as Commanding Officer he continued to develop ways to improve the inter-action between cadets and staff. The squadron started doing many varied option training courses being offered on evenings and weekends. This thinking continues to this day. Several Air Cadet League Provincial Awards were won by the squadron during his term in office. A lifelong cadet, he kept up with the squadrons progress well past his retirement and attended various activities including the 75th anniversary celebration in 2016. From 1983-2003 he completed full time call out assignments for the Central Region Support Unit RCSU(C) with postings at CFB North Bay and CFB Borden. He retired a Major, 2nd in Command.
David loved planes and flying. He built many model airplanes. He knew every detail about every military plane out there and would share his knowledge with his children whether they were interested or not. He was dog person and never met a dog he did not like. Training his dogs the opposite commands so when he said “charge” they would sit.
David’s love for the outdoors and canoeing was shared with his oldest daughter. Most likely started when he took his two oldest daughters on a weeklong canoe portage trip. An adventure they will always remember. The week included their first subway ride through Toronto with all their camping gear and his decision to feed them military rations. He even built his own canoe.
David will be fondly remembered and missed by his eight grandchildren Amanda, Paige, August, Kira, Ryder, Scarlett, Aiden, and Rachael. He was the kind of grandfather who would get down on their level to play. He took an interest in their activities and made the effort to watch soccer games and cheer competitions. He loved to tease them, which made them laugh as kids, not so much as teens. They will miss his legendary big breakfasts during weekend visits.
David’s last years were spent quietly with his wife Diane at their beautiful house in Phinney Cove, Nova Scotia watching the ocean tide from his living room and researching their next cruise. Always a puzzle on the table and appreciating any help with it from visiting family and friends.
David is survived Diane, his wife of 30 years. His last remaining sister Barbara Pennie (Mark) of Alberta. He leaves behind three daughters Carrie Forrest (Rob) of Yarmouth NS, Katie Donohue (Sean) of Kingston, Ont., Holly Anderson (Cam) of Enfield NS, stepson Paul Marshall (Mary) of New Port Richey, USA., stepdaughter Tracy Issacs (Danny) of Los Angles USA and his host daughter, Lisa Schwyrz of Germany. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations to your favorite cause is encouraged in lieu of flowers.
