Obituary of William Cornelius Van Roestel

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) van Roestel. Bill passed away peacefully on June 30th at Mountain Lea Lodge in Bridgetown with his family by his side. Our Dad had been a resident there since June, 2022. Born on March 6, 1932 in Riel, Holland. He immigrated to Ontario in 1952. Mom and Dad married in 1957, and moved to Nova Scotia in 1959 where they established a very successful dairy operation in Clarence called Bonnie Vale Farm. Dad and Mom worked tirelessly, side by side, true farming partners for 35 years. They then retired to Middleton and were able to take up many recreational sports such as golfing, curling, x-country skiing, as well as continuing to play cards especially bridge. They wintered in Florida for many years as well.

Dad was involved with many organizations and boards. His most memorable was with Kings Mutual Insurance where he was a director for fifteen years, as well as Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2002-2004.

Dad is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Leonia (Lena), their four children, Jack (Betty), Marian (Greg), Adrian, and Jim (Jackie). Dad was Opa to seven grandchildren, Aaron (Carrie), Talia, Lee (Tricia), Alison (Niels), Alex, Lucas, Olivia (Kolby), and Great-Opa to Case, Anika, Orion, Thomas, Rose, Lena, Brooks, and Macall.  As well as seven step-grandchildren, and their children.

Dad is the last member of his immediate family to pass.

In keeping with Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and entrusted to the Kaulbach Funeral home. Interment will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mountain Lea Lodge for their exceptional care given to Dad over the past three years.

Donations in Dad’s memory may be made to Mountain Lea Lodge Recreation Department or your local food bank.
