Obituary of Marion Jeanette Handspiker
Handspiker, Marion Jeanette 83 passed away April 28, 2025 in Mountain Lea Lodge Bridgetown. Born Culloden, Digby Co. she was the eldest daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Boylan) Hersey. Over the years Marion worked at MT&T as a telephone operator, was an Avon Rep and enjoyed babysitting. She loved to travel; bingo trips to the States, heading south, going across Canada and around the world. Genealogy, playing crib, or Skippo and sitting on the front street of Digby enjoying conversations with the public were things she also loved doing.
Marion is survived by her daughters: Kimberly (Michael O’Neil) of Digby, Karen (Larry Holland) of Wilmot, and Krista of Digby, grandchildren: Anjelica (Alex Frankland) of Hammonds Plains, Phillip (Valerie) Cormier of Weymouth, Devin and Hailey Handspiker Wade of Halifax, Ashley and Nicholas O’Neil of Digby; great grandsons Levi and Myles Frankland, Barret Cormier; sisters: Darlene Hersey (Lester Thibault) of Digby, Susan Hersey (Jan McKinnon) of Kingston; brother-in-law Wayne Handspiker of Alberta, several nieces , nephews and cousins.
Marion was predeceased by her husband Ewart Hanspiker, brother Roy Hersey; sisters-in-law Evelyn Hersey and Jackie Handspiker.
Kim would like to thank the staff at Mountain Lea Lodge for the loving care they provided Marion and the family over the past 5 years. No visitation by request. A private graveside service will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev Mark Cress officiating in the Union Cemetery, Culloden, Digby Co. Family flowers only. Donations in Marion’s memory may be sent to Kidney Foundation.
