Obituary of James Dean Guest
James Dean Guest ("Deno")
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Dean Guest, affectionately known as Deno, on April 7, 2025. Dean passed away peacefully at Valley Hospice in Kentville after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Dean is lovingly remembered by his mother Esther; his three children: Ryan, Sarah (North Carolina), and Tyler (Halifax); his brother Derek and sister-in-law Karen; his niece and nephew, Taylor and Riley. He will also be deeply missed by his island family and his loving partner Corinda Smallman and stepson Jason Stewart.
He was predeceased by his father Edwin and his Aunt Row.
Born and raised in Annapolis Royal, Dean developed an early passion for sports—especially hockey and baseball. After high school, he moved to Prince Edward Island, where he became the youngest police officer to graduate in Charlottetown. His career later took him to Wolfville and then North Carolina, before eventually returning home to Annapolis Royal. There, Dean pursued a course in Human Services and dedicated his work to supporting individuals with special needs and those living with addictions.
Dean was a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan and always held hope of seeing them win it all.
Donations in Dean’s memory may be made to Valley Hospice in Kentville, where the doctors and nurses offered exceptional care, or to Camp Gencheff in Charlottetown, PEI, a place close to Dean’s heart where Jason attended camp.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to everyone who cared for Deno, including the compassionate teams at Valley Hospice and hospitals throughout the province. Thank you as well to the many friends and family who visited and supported Dean in his final days.
Cremation has taken place under the care of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home. As per Dean’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
