Obituary of Bertrum Eugene Ramey
Bertrum “Bert” Eugene Ramey of Bridgetown, passed away on April 7th, 2025, in Bridgetown, at the age of 85. He was born in Bridgetown on December 2nd, 1939, to Keith and Marjorie (Jordan) Ramey. Bert attended Bridgetown Regional High School but left school before graduating to join the Army as a lineman. Not long after his release from the military in 1960 he married his loving wife Leota (Gillis) and took a job with Thompson’s Transfer Ltd and Allied Van Lines as long-distance truck driver. When Bert and Leota decided to raise a family, Bert took a job at Acadian Distillers so he wouldn’t be away from home and worked there until it closed. While working at the Distillery he joined the RCMP Auxiliary and following the closure of the Distillery he worked as a constable with the Annapolis Royal Police Department until he retired. Bert was a 50+ year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 33 and a founding member of the Annapolis County Ground Search and Rescue.
Bert was most happy at home in West Dalhousie and later in Bridgetown with family and friends but also enjoyed making special trips to visit his children and their families wherever they lived across the country. He loved driving around town and going to Tim Horton’s for coffee with his many friends where he could often be found talking to people, telling stories, or tormenting in his good-natured way. When not cruising around town or having coffee Bert enjoyed watching TV with his cat “Murphy” on his lap. In 2020 Bert and Leota celebrated their 60th anniversary.
Bert is survived by his children Steve (Karen), Kingston Ont., Sue (Ryan), Wilmot NS; three grandchildren, Cody (Emma); Cailey (Chance); Ryan (Becky); three great-grandchildren Max, Fraser, Maggie; sister Joyce Woodhouse Ottawa, brother-in-law Max denHaan Spa Springs; and five nephews and four nieces. He was predeceased by parents; his loving wife of 60 years Leota; his brother Robert; his sister Donna; his niece Vicki; his nephew Jason; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Bill and Marion Gillis.
