Wayne and I started our teaching together at Sacred Heart Section of the JR Smallwood Collegiate in Wabush, Labrador.
Our classrooms were next door and many antics occurred because of that. Wayne was a fabulous teacher and had a wonderful approach to his students, always laughing, he made his classes interesting and fun. For example one day he taught the parts of the atom by throwing balls of modeling clay at the blackboard ,from the back of the lab while announcing here is the proton etc. On another occasion, just before the chemistry final was to start, Wayne met me and told me he had forgotten to make copies of the exam. Not to worry, we had a plan. He would make copies of the first page, and I would quickly pass them out to the students....the same with all the other pages. No one ever knew what we did. We will never forget you Wayne and send heartfelt prayers and sympathy to the family.

Lesley and all of Wayne’s family:
I am very sorry for your loss. Wayne was certainly a man with a strong presence. During my time with the Annapolis Valley RRC, I spent countless hours meeting with Wayne and other members of the AVRSB Management and NSTU. When it was time for negotiations, we were together for days at a time. Through all of this, Wayne stood strong for the Board, but was always open to the teachers’ side as well. He was a tough negotiator, but he was fair. Whatever agreements we reached were in the best interest of students and teachers, and ultimately for the improvement of education in the Annapolis Valley. No matter how tense our days might become, Wayne could break the ice with his smile and his gentle voice. We might have had our disagreements, but Wayne was not a man who held grudges. He respected us for our knowledge and hard work and we reciprocated in the same manner. Wayne MacDonald will long be remembered for his contribution to education in the Annapolis Valley. I am grateful to have spent my leadership years working with him. My condolences to family, especially to Lesley and his sons and their families. You have lost a very special person in your lives.

Dearest Lesley,
Darlene and I would like to express our sincerest sympathies to you and your family.
So many thoughts and memories come to mind as I think back over "the good old days" working with Wayne.
Wayne always seemed to have a warm smile and a story to share. He was keenly aware of where he had come from, and, where he was going. He worked very hard; he valued and supported those around him.
Wayne was progressive and principled. He embraced challenge and change. He was open to new ideas to keep moving forward. He created opportunities for others to participate. Thanks to Wayne, things got done.
These are difficult days, but I know they will pass. Wayne has left such a wonderful legacy for us to reflect on and celebrate.

My deepest sympathy and assurance of prayers on the death of your dear husband and father: Wayne. Wayne and I were classmates at Saint Francis Xavier University and although I did not get to see him much across the years, we always shared a lasting friendship. I spoke with Wayne a few times by phone throughout his illness and he had such a positive attitude - for sure, he showed great faith and courage - knowing him, no one would expect him to be otherwise. He served well throughout his life - with such love and dedication to his family - and in the field of education and participating in multiple organizations and committees. He has earned his contentment and rest. Ralph GILLIS, Wayne's first cousin ( we were all classmates at STFX) and I are close friends and he always kept me informed on Wayne. I will offer Mass for Wayne and for all of the family. God bless you all.
