Obituary of Dorothy Marie Everett
Dorothy Marie (Parker) Everett died peacefully on April 1 at the age of 92 years. Dorothy had been living in a private care facility since just before her 90th birthday. There she received excellent care required because of the effects of dementia. She was predeceased by her parents Fred and Phyllis Parker; her husband of 53 years, Wylie; her in-laws Hiram (aka Bungy) and Goldie Everett, her sister-in-law, Janet Parker; her brothers-in-law Bill Titus, Earle Ellis, Leigh Everett, Joe Everett and Lawrence Taylor.
Shortly after her marriage to Wylie a posting with the RCAF took the couple to Germany. Travels throughout Europe with two young children followed before returning to Canada where a third child was born. Settling down in Victoria Beach, NS, after leaving the Air Force, she lived in the same home in that village for 55 years.
From Victoria Beach Dorothy restarted her teaching career in Annapolis Royal while studying part time at Acadia University eventually earning a BA and a BEd.
Dorothy’s best friend throughout her life was her sister Helen (aka Pink) Ellis. There was only a 15 month age difference between them. Dot and Pink raised their families as neighbors in Victoria Beach. The two homes were very intertwined. Until Dot’s dementia made communication no longer workable, there was rarely a day since Victoria Beach became home base that the two sisters didn’t interact.
With children raised and freedom of time coming from retirement, Dorothy unlocked and reinvigorated a bundle of passions and interests that kept her engaged for 30 years. In no particular order, bird watching, reading, gardening, church related activities, travel, coffee club, keeping current on her grandchildren and walking. Always walking the hills of Victoria Beach.
From Victoria Beach she and Wylie travelled, along with their Jack Russell. A road trip to Alaska was their biggest endeavour. Dorothy’s role then morphed into care giver as Wylie’s dementia progressed.
Dorothy is survived by three children, Ken (Kerry), Mary Lou and Sandra (Kevin); three grandchildren Emma, Kate and Blade; siblings Helen Ellis and Wayne (Pat Bill) Parker; and five sisters-in-law: Ilda (late Lawrence) Taylor, Bertha (late Bill) Titus, Juanita (Otis) Sproule, Sandra (late Leigh) Everett and Fay (late Joe) Everett. Also many Parker/Eye cousins, many nephews and nieces all with their own families.
Long time family friends include Pat Parker, Ottawa and the late Bill and Marion Thomson of Angus, Ontario. The White family (Graceview Residence) of Victoria Vale, NS, along with their caring and kind staff, have made the past two+ years comfortable and pleasant for Dorothy and for us all.
As Dorothy wanted, cremation has taken place. There will be no formal service. Interment in Victoria Beach cemetery followed by a nearby drop-in is planned for July 26, 2025. Further details will be shared when known.
Dorothy was kind, thoughtful and generous, she loved deeply and was much loved back. Our lives have been so rich because of her. She will be forever missed.
