Obituary of Charles Edward Tidd
Tidd, Charles Edward – 85, of Bridgetown, passed away March 25, 2025, at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born April 29, 1939, he was the son of the late Floyd and Eileen (Vidito) Tidd.
Charles was a kind and loving man, and an exceptional husband, father and grandfather. He was affectionally known to his great grandchildren as ‘GG’. Those who knew him, knew and loved him for his sarcasm, quick and sassy but gentle wit.
Charles worked for many years at Acadian Distillery as a cooker and warehouse shipper. Upon leaving the distillery, he held a few different jobs but is best known for owning and operating the Bridgetown Bowling Alley for 12 years. He was a member of the West Nova Scotia Regiment for 23 years. He, along with his brother Joe, were two of the members who restarted the 686 Army Cadet Corps in Bridgetown that is still active today.
Charles loved sports including bowling, softball, baseball, golf, hockey and curling. He was an avid fan of ‘his teams’, the Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs. He was inducted into the Bridgetown and Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 as a softball pitcher for the Bridgetown 7 Up Softball team.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Jean; sons, Dean (Sherry), Mount Denson, Brian (Amanda), Edmonton, Alberta; grandchildren, Kyle (Alyson), Neville (Norah), Allana (Sherman), Garreth (Sydney), Sydney (Mitch), Jayme, Ashley (Orlando), Reegan; great grandchildren, Avery, Amelia, Braydon, Mythias, Octavia, Vena, Maverick, Willow, Lilo; sister, Thelma; brother, Ossie (Cathy); several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by his sister, Romona; brothers, Billy, Joe, Paul, John, George.
A funeral service will be held 2pm Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown, with Rev. Juanita Barteaux officiating. Reception to follow. Donations in Charles’ memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the staff of Valley Regional Hospital for the care they provided and to those who took time to be with Charles’ family during this time.
