Obituary of Gregory Francis Barr

Please share a memory of Gregory to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gregory Francis Barr

It’s with extremely broken hearts that we announce Greg’s passing on Friday, March 7th, at Valley Regional Hospital after a 15 year battle with heart problems.

Greg was born in Yarmouth on January 6, 1974 to Gloria Barr and the late Sonny Barr. He attended Weymouth Consolidated School and graduated from Dalhousie University and then became a Certified Professional Accountant.

He worked for over 20 years in Dartmouth for the NS Construction Safety Association. He then moved home to the valley working first for the town of Annapolis Royal and then was Director of Finance for the Municipality of Kings for the past six years.

Greg enjoyed many sports, playing basketball all through high school and lots of golf games with Eric and friends in later years. He shared his love of sports with his pride and joy – his sons, Eric and Jack.

Greg loved his family very much, especially his wife and little boys. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Amy (Matthews); sons, Eric and Jack; sisters, Pam (Timmy) Sullivan, Laurel (Ted) Wagner; brother, Steven and wife Tracey and many nieces and nephews.

We know Greg is in heaven with his dad, Sonny Barr, who was his best friend. His life made an incredible impact on all of us and his memory will live on in those who loved him.

He will be forever missed and loved, and our hearts will never be the same.

Special thank you from the family to the Annapolis Royal Volunteer Fire Department, EHS, and the doctors and nurses at Valley Regional Hospital who did everything they could.

Cremation has taken place and a private burial will be held at a future date.

A Celebration of Greg’s life will be held, 3pm Friday March 14th, 2025 at the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal with Craig Glavin officiating. Reception to follow. Family flowers only. If anyone desires to make a donations to Amy Barr, in trust for the boy's education and future may be left at Bainton's Book Store, 213 St. George Street, Annapolis Royal, NS B0S 1A0  in trust for the children's education and future.
