Obituary of Donna Pauline Campbell

Please share a memory of Donna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Just before her favourite time of the year our Mom passed away on December 12th, 2024 at the age of 87. Donna Pauline Campbell was born on Valentine’s Day, 1937 to Linda Nauss, Charleston, Queens County. In September of that same year, Mom contracted the polio virus and rheumatic fever. The polio vaccine would not become available until almost 20 years later. The result was a lifelong disability, including things that couldn’t be seen, like a severe heart condition. Her Mom was told she would not live beyond 12 years of age, and yet on May 17th, 2025 we will be celebrating a long life that touched countless people. At the young age of 14, Donna left home, trained as a medical transcriptionist and went to work at the Roseway Hospital in Shelburne. In 1959 she moved to Halifax to work at the Halifax Infirmary. Encouraged by her friends to attend a local dance she met and married her sweetheart Douglas Campbell in 1961. Mom and Dad went on to welcome three children, Kimberly, Derrick and Mark. Donna and Doug were always the pillars of their community, volunteering in many ways to support their church, the children of the community, making sure people were fed, and, they opened their home to anyone in need. Donna was pre-deceased by her Mother, Linda Henneberry, husband, Doug Campbell, her son Derrick Campbell, her sister Dianne Norman. She is survived and missed greatly by her sister, Maureen Nauss, children and grandchildren who will continue to live by her example of courage, strength, grace, and concern for others. Her surviving children and grandchildren – Kimberly Carter, Mark Campbell , Emma Carter (Jon Sproul) , Hilary Carter (Nick Blackmore) , Christopher Carter, Courtney Taylor (Ben Taylor) a great grandson Terry , Cole Campbell. Son in law Derek Carter, daughter in law Sandi Campbell. . A Celebration of Life will be held at Parker’s Cove Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17th. A reception will follow to share memories and honour a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, should you wish, donations may be made to the following or a charity that holds a special meaning for you.
