Deepest condolences going out to all of Rowena’s family and friends. She was such a beautiful, sweet, caring, kind, funny lady. I always loved running into her, and usually Esther with her, on my visits to events in Annapolis. She was always good for a laugh but also very genuinely interested in hearing about all my family as well. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her but we will all cherish those memories she blessed us with. My love and thoughts are with her family. Rest easy Rowena.

My deepest condolances to Roweenas family as you navigate the void she leaves! I first meet Roweena when I did my job placement at her office at C F B Cornwallis, she was so friendly and nice that it was if we knew each other all our lives. Then of course I saw her lots when I worked at IGA/Sears. Roweena your one of a kind! Rest easy my friend!

So very sorry for your loss. I didn't know Rowena well, but she always had a story and a laugh for me whenever I met up with her, which was usually with her sister Ester. I hope all your good memories and giggles you had with her will help you get through this very trying time. My thoughts are with you all

I have known Rowena since my family moved into Annapolis Royal when I was 4 years old and she was the smiling lady who lived across the back yard (she laughingly told me she’d take my carved pumpkin and turn it into a pie ... if only I had known then that her pies would become my holiday favourites, I might have agreed!). At the time, she worked at Beeler’s Hardware, knew everyone in the community and always had a friendly word to all.
As an adult when I lived next door to her again on Grange Street, Rowena was first in line when my sons came out of the hospital, only for them to be passed over the fence so she could show them to her dear friend and tenant, Vera. She was the surrogate grandparent for us all: she shared our weekends and holidays, and loved having the boys over after school for a snack, or after supper for a baseball or hockey game on TV (Row was a die-hard Toronto fan, for both).
Later, my wife would spend Mondays after school doing puzzles in the newspaper with her, sing songs, and laugh, and she looked forward to when her sister Ginny came down from Halifax to stay for a month and do jigsaw puzzles (Row was especially adept at these). As well as singing, she beautifully played old country songs on her guitar and could remember the words to songs spanning nearly a century.
She adored visits from her step-children, her large family including her many nieces and nephews and their offspring, and looked forward to sharing their photos with visitors to her front sunroom. Nobody liked to laugh as much as Rowena, and when she could meet new people who took to walking past her house, or meet old friends (and quite often family) in the market, she always said something to have them in stitches.
Rowena was very proud of her property, and kept it immaculately, inside and out, but the little kids next door were more than welcome to play in her snowbanks and yard, and she’d watch them, smiling and laughing, from her window. She was the most inviting soul we know, always wanting to have any of our visiting friends or family come in for tea. And if you refused any snacks, it was quite possible she’d throw a cookie or two into your lap, saying “Don’t be foolish, have a cookie!!” then laugh and laugh and laugh.
Her extensive knowledge of her very broad community, including a shared experience of those who worked at Cornwallis Base (where she was in charge of payroll), meant we’d spend hours recounting people we knew and their genealogy or connections to each other. I can’t think of anyone as broadly connected to her community as Rowena, whether they be family or her many dear friends, and she will be so very missed.
We love you, Row.

Rowena was a part of our family for years. I lost touch with her until she turned up again as a neighbour to our youngest family member Micheal and his family. Rowena was in heaven when a daycare opened up right next door. She adored children. But most of all two little boys that we think were hers because they would run to her when ever they could. She was as much in love with Brogan and Dorian as they were a big part of her life. It was hard not to love her. She always had a smile, a cookie and a hug.
When I introduced my Husband to Rowena it was love at first sight. Fernando admired her love of life and how she welcomed him and anybody else into her home for tea.
We thank God for having shared this unforgettable
lady with us for so many years. Our yearly trips home to Annapolis will never be the same without having the opportunity to talk and laugh with her.
May God bless and keep Row as close as she kept her family and friends. Rest in Eternal Peace precious Lady.

Sending condolences to the family. Our mom, Jean Milne, spent a great deal of her younger years making memories with Rowena, Ester, and others. They have remained friends throughout their lifetime. Always good for a laugh, when bumping into them around town. She will be missed.
