Thane Veron Long

We are saddened to announce the passing of our father in his 93rd year on January 17, 2018, in Lawrencetown with his family by his side. Born in Powerlot, he was the son of the late Ralph and Zeddie (Wright) Long. Thane was the last surviving sibling of his family. A beloved husband, father, grand-father and great grand-father, Thane was a very loving, kind, and gentle soul. He was a member and trustee of the Clementsvale United Baptist Church and also sang in the choir. Thane was a 48 year continuous service member of Branch 122 Clementsport Royal Canadian Legion where he enjoyed playing pool and cards. At the age of 19 he enlisted in the Canadian Army where he served overseas during WWII. Thane worked as a carpenter at CFB Cornwallis for 28 years where he retired at the young age of 65. He always enjoyed working in his garden and cutting up his firewood. Dad was loved by so many and will be sadly missed by everyone.

Thane is survived by son, Joey Long (Darlene) Lawrencetown; daughters Janice Deveau (Gary) Clementsport and Teresa Long Lawrencetown; grandchildren, Michael, Lisa, Brian and Joey; great-grandchildren, Juliette, Lola, Arlo and Rayna.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marion; sisters, Ethel Dean, Verna Payne; brothers, Glenford Long, Wiley Long, Lindsay Long, Clyde Long, Corey Long and Elmore Long.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Annapolis Royal, where visitation will be held Friday 19 January from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Legion and funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday 20 January, in Clementsvale Baptist Church, Clementsvale, with Rev. Dr. Randy Legassie officiation.

Our sincere thanks to Dr. Ken Buchholz, Palliative Care and the VON for their compassion and kindness. Thank you to a special group of hardworking, dedicated and caring people who made it all possible for Dad to be home for the last several weeks.

Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be sent to Clementsvale Baptist Church, or Branch 122 Clementsport Royal Canadian Legion.
