Casey, Vera Gertrude, 99, of Victoria Beach passed away September 19, 2017 at home. Born in Port Wade, she was the daughter of the late Carrie (McGrath) and Charles McWhinnie. Vera was predeceased by her husband, Joe; brothers, Cyril and Clifford McWhinnie; sisters, Ruth Hartlen, Hazel Kindred and Marion McWhinnie. Vera is survived by daughter, Linda Walker, Scarborough, ON; sons, Michael (Lynn), Middle Sackville, Duncan (Brenda), Digby; ten grandchildren, Martin, Kevin, Janel, Laurel, Emily, Sarah, Kyle; step grandchildren, Emily, Darcy, Devin; 13 great grandchildren. Vera graduated from Nova Scotia Business College and held various secretarial positions and was the first secretary to the chief architect during the building of the present day Port Royal Habitation. During her four decades as the proprietor of Fundy View House and Cabins, she was a gracious host to hundreds of guests and developed cherished friendships with many of her loyal visitors. Vera and Joe were fortunate to have celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage. What a wonderful example of love, dedication and devotion. Vera was a member of Victoria Beach United Baptist Church and WMS Society. Vera loved her Lord and found comfort in her strong faith. The family wishes to express thanks and appreciation to the many people in the community and especially Vera’s caregivers. Visitation will be held 7-9pm Thursday September 28, 2017 at the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal.  A funeral celebration of Vera’s life will be held at 2pm Friday, September 29, 2017 from the Port Wade Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Randy Legassie officiating. Following the service a reception will be held at the Port Wade church hall. Interment will follow in Garden of Peace Cemetery, Victoria Beach. Family flowers only.
