Obituary of James Edward Pelly

~~Pelly, James Edward – 82, Bridgetown passed away September 4, 2017, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Liverpool, NS, April 30, 1935, he was the son of the late Edward and Julia (Lingley) Pelly. Jim spent most of his career working for Maritime Tel/Tel. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing being his favorite pastimes and he loved to tell he had had the great opportunity to have fished in every province and territory in Canada. He was also an active member of the Nova Scotia Fly Fishers Association and an advocate for bringing salmon back to our valley streams. During his earlier years, he was involved in activities with the youth, volunteering as a Scout leader, and teaching fly fishing through a school program, enabling many children of the community to experience the outdoors. Jim was also a major part of the team in moving St Alphonsus to its current location, dedicating long hours till its completion. Many hours of his time were also given to the construction of a new playground at BRES. He was always willing to lend a hand in his community. James is survived by his wife, Valerie (Gallant); Sons, James Jr., Paul, daughter, Julianne Shackleton, sons Dustan, and Chris; and daughter Valerie Gallant; grandchildren, Mary Ann Clark, Maggie Shackleton, Dylan Pelly; great grandchildren, Rhys Shackleton and Mikayla, Michael, Brooklyn, Evan Clark; sister, Patricia Smith. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by grandchildren, Caitlin Pelly and David Shackleton; brothers, John and Richard. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Bridgetown. A funeral service will be held 10 am Thursday September 14 from the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with Father John MacPherson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
