Obituary of Ronald George Batson

Batson, Sgt. Ronald George (C.C.M. C.D., II Bar Ret'd) passed away August 15, 2017 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family and friends. Born in Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, he was a son of the late James "Jack" and Rhoda (Fox) Batson. Ron was a veteran who served his country for 30 years as a Medic in the Army with distinction and dedication. Ron did two tours in Korea with the 37 Field Ambulance; one tour in Japan and Egypt. With the 2PPCLI (Air Borne), Ron served in Alberta, Germany and Cyprus. Other postings included the National Defence Medical Centre, Ottawa, CFS Baldy Hughes, and CFS Barrington, where he retired. In 2014 Ron was honored by the Government of Republic of Korea with the "Ambassador for Peace" medal. Ron was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #33 Bridgetown for 38 years. Ron was a long time member of "The Order of Good Cheer". He was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Bridgetown and he attended the Inglewood United Baptist Church supporting the ministry of his wife. Upon retirement Ron settled in Bridgetown where he worked at the ARC for five years as a PCW. He could be found at the break of dawn enjoying coffee at CJ Nob's, taking daily walks in his garden and chatting with his neighbors. Ron enjoyed many adventures that included scuba diving, sky diving, snorkeling, attending NASCAR races at Daytona, para-sailing in Mexico and zip-lining in Jamaica. Cruising the Middle East; where he enjoyed visiting Dubai, and Abu Dhabi, cruising through the Panama Canal, around the Mediterranean Sea where he had the opportunity to visit ports in Italy, Greece, Turkey, France and Spain. Earlier this year Ron cruised around South America where he spent time in Ushuaia (known as the most Southern City in the world). Ron was a person who never counted his days, but made his days count. Ron will be greatly missed by his loving wife Cathy (Rice) of 33 years of Bridgetown; daughter Paige Batson(Nicholas Foster) of Halifax; special friend Liam LeBlanc; sisters: June Jeffrey of Salisbury, N.B., Patricia Steadman, Midge (Don) Medicraft of Middleton, brother: Frank Batson of Clarence, father-in-law Corey Rice of West Paradise, sister-in-law Carol (Charles) Benedict of Taymouth, NB, brother -in-law Albert (Carol) Rice of Bridgetown and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Ron was predeceased by brothers: John "Jackie", James William "Bill" ; brothers-in-law Bud Steadman, Frank Jeffrey, sister-in-law Pauline Batson, nephew Michael Jeffrey and mother-in- law L. Pauline Rice. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. A Royal Canadian Legion service followed by a Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 26, 2017 at the Bridgetown Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Legassie officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Bridgetown.
