Divera Lukeman, 72, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 201, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. The youngest of 8 children of Peter and Fanny (Segal) Minovitch, Divera was a 1st generation Canadian of a Russian father and Romanian mother. She was predeceased by sisters, Norma (Wise), Meriam (Mandel), Esther (Ross); brothers, Lloyd and Hesh Minovitch. She is survived by husband of 42 years John; children, Catherine (George), Halifax, and Jason (Hampton,NB); brother, Sy Minovitch (Saskatoon); sister, Dr. Eve Sakolsky (Florida) Divera was an accomplished pianist and grad of the Royal Conservatory of music and taught piano, music history and theory for many years to children and adults who themselves are teaching or performing music. Born in Moose Jaw, SK, Divera worked in prestigious Law firms in Toronto, and NS as well as for the presidents of both oil and mineral companies in Calgary, where she met John 42 years ago. During their life together they lived in Calgary, Nova Scotia and North Carolina, finally retiring to the Annapolis Valley- Bridgetown and Cornwallis. The family would like to thank Divera's many friends, new and old, for the kindness and caring shown during her illness- the 'condo' ladies in Cornwallis and the many good friends in Bridgetown. Digby, and away-a special thrill was the visits from niece Bobbi Sodersirom (Ottawa) and nephew Mitch Wise and the Phillips' (Calgary), and the many calls and notes from family and friends from away. You will never know how much you all meant. Thanks also to the staff and palliative people at the 3 hospitals for their wonderful and sensitive care. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Kaulbach Funeral Home, Bridgetown. There will be no formal service or visitation; friends are welcome to call or drop by at 520 Harbourview Cr. In Cornwallis, NS. In remembrance of Divera's lifelong love of the Greyhound, donations may be made to Greyhound Pets of Atlantic Canada (GPAC), 343 West Petpeswick Rd., Musquodoboit Harbour, NS., BOS 2L0, or to the VON- Annapolis Valley Branch.
