Obituary of Paul Roland Spicer

Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sorrow that the family and loved ones of Paul Roland Spicer announce his passing on November 24th, 2016. Paul was born September 13, 1928 in Harbourville, Kings County, the son of Roland Coffin Spicer and Nellie Crosby Bain. Paul died at home surrounded by family after a lengthy battle with cancer. He is survived by his sister, Janet DeVenney of Bridgetown; children, Barbara (Ted) Agombar of Bridgetown, Elaine Thorne of Coldbrook, and Bruce (Heather) Spicer of Hampton; grandchildren, Geoffrey (Cat), Tim (Shelley), Philip (Alicia), Robbie (Emma), Lisa (Jim), Kimberly (Shawn), Tracey (Billy), Jesse (Michelle), Craig (Susi), Kirk (Amy); great grandchildren, Spencer, Maria, Roland, Alyssa, Brady, Riley, Cecilia, Jada, Tessa, Linden, Gerard, Petra, Jaxon, Felix, Daniel, Paul, and Effie. Paul was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Phyllis Bayliss; brothers, Jim, Clayton, Jerry and Wayne; sisters, Eileen Frost and Margaret Smith; son in law, Brian Thorne. Paul established Spicer Construction and Bridgetown Aluminum Products in the 1950’s, the Frostee Freeze in the early 1960’s and Spicer Rentals. Paul was an avid outdoorsman who loved to spend time hunting at Donkey Lodge, fishing at Milbury Lake, and canoeing the rivers of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. He had the ability to build or create anything he put his mind to. Paul’s masterful storytelling was entertaining to all who knew him. He possessed a witty sense of humour, a Spicer trait shared by his siblings. Most of all Paul loved spending time and making memories with his grandchildren and his greatest joy, his great grandchildren. In late years, Paul was often found at local jam sessions with his good friend Bev Ward and sidekick Sam. Cremation has taken place and arrangement have been entrusted to Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. A visitation will be held 7-9pm Monday November 28, with a Service of Remembrance being held at 2pm Tuesday November 29, both from the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown, with Rev. Mark Reece officiating. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the VON Palliative Care, or the Red Cross.
