Obituary of Basil Whitman Pierce

The death of Rev. Basil W. Pierce of Phinney Cove, N.S occurred peacefully on August 12, 2016, surrounded by his family, at Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Basil was born on November 21, 1914 in Sable Rover, N.S. to parents, Haliburton Pierce and Winnifred Dunlop. Predeceased by parents, brother, Allison; sisters, Oleta, Evelyn, Ada Odessa, Vera; infant son Phillip and infant great granddaughter, Olivia. Left to mourn are his wife, Vinna (Matchett) of seventy-one years; son, Paul and his wife, Ardena; daughter, Winnie Lou and her husband, George Sheen, as well as grandchildren, Andre, Darren (Christa), Christopher (Kihye), Pamela and Heather (Mark); also great grandchildren, Jaxon, George III, Tanner, Sofia and Norah and nephew Clifford ( Debbie) Giffin. Basil had several occupations over his life span which included fishing, farming and carpentry but his main calling was as a pastor. Visitation will be held 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm, Tuesday August 16, with a funeral service being held 2:00 pm Wednesday August 17, both from the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown with Rev. Robert Cross officiating. A reception will follow the service, then interment in Hampton Cemetery. Donations in Basil’s memory may be made to the Gideon Bible Society.
