Obituary of Evelyn Margaret Mills

Mills, Evelyn Margaret 99, of Bridgetown, passed away January 3, 2016, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Mahone Bay, she was a daughter of the late William Henry and Lena (Hiltz) Schnare. Evie was educated at the Mahone Bay High School and MacLaughlin Business College, Halifax. At age 19, she moved to Bridgetown, where she worked for MW Graves for five years, and met and married Donald Mills. While Don moved to Newfoundland when the war started, Evie worked for the Department of Transportation in Bridgewater for two years before joining him. In Newfoundland, she worked for the Federal Treasury Department. for three years. Following the war years, they returned to Bridgetown where she was employed with Dr. R. T. Annand for 20 years. Evie was a member of St. James Anglican Church, past member of the Evening Guild at St. James , the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Bridgetown Curling Club , the Eden Golf and Country Club, and was active in her community. She was quick to declare that her favorite sport was tennis! Evie was an avid Bridge player until her mid-90s. She loved meeting people, had a wide circle of friends, and was the consummate hostess, entertaining being one of her favorite past times. She loved life in general. Aunt Evie was greatly adored by nieces and nephews of three generations. She particularly delighted in the youngest ones, never missing an opportunity to send them gifts and cards. Evie was predeceased by her husband Donald and brother Gordon. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2016, from St. James Anglican Church, Bridgetown with Rev. Joel Hardy officiating, and reception directly following.
